Why give it all away for free?
That's a question that we are often faced with. We will here try
to answer that question as well as tell you a bit about in what direction we think
and hope this project will go.
So why Open Source?
There are several reasons for choosing to give away the application
as well as the code - but the main reasons are:
- ..to give something back to the Open Source community
- ..to help the universities
- ..to get others to help develop further and make the best free inventory solution
out there
- ..to see how far we can get
- ..and for the fun of it!
And where to go?
We really do believe that the application already now is as good
or even better than the commercially available products from the big vendors (none
mentioned none forgotten!) - that requires a lot of money.

That's a good place to start - but
we want to make it better! We want to make a complete integrated
medicinal chemistry support application with features like:
- physical chemical property calculation
- reagent selection support
- inventory
- pharmacological results
- SAR overviews
- etc, etc
The final goal will therefore be to deliver all this in production
quality, as Open Source for free and make chemicalInventory the application of choice
for chemistry support at Universities
This is of cause a very ambitious goal that will be hard to reach.
So we need your help! Do install, use, give us feedback
and supply your code and we will make it together!
